On Mercado Libre, logistics IS the product

In Mexico, Mercado Libre isn't "one more channel" — for many brands it's the channel. And its algorithm rewards one thing above almost everything else: orders that arrive fast, complete and on time. Your reputation — the green/yellow/red status the buyer sees — is built on punctual shipping. So the question "how do I handle fulfillment on Mercado Libre?" isn't operational, it's commercial.

Fulfillment is everything that happens from the moment someone buys until they receive the package: storing the product, picking it, packing it, and shipping it. On Mercado Libre you can solve that process in three different ways, and choosing wrong costs you sales or margin.

The three Mercado Envíos options

Mercado Envíos is the platform's logistics system. You get three modes:

Mode Who stores and ships What it's for
Full Mercado Libre (in its centers) Maximum exposure and the "FULL" badge; you just replenish
Flex You (or your operator) Same-day delivery in your zone, with your fleet or ML's
Colecta You store and pack; ML picks up Inventory control + scheduled pickup at your warehouse
  • Full (Mercado Envíos Full): you send your inventory to a Mercado Libre center. They store, pack and ship every order. In return you get the FULL badge (the green label on the listing), faster shipping and better ranking. The cost: you give up inventory control and pay ML's storage — which climbs when product sits too long.
  • Flex (Mercado Envíos Flex): you store and deliver same-day within your coverage zone. Great for fast local sales, but it forces you to run an operation that dispatches every day before the cutoff (the cut-off time for an order to ship that same day).
  • Colecta: you store and pack the order; a carrier comes to collect it at your warehouse on a scheduled pickup. It's the middle ground: you control inventory and packaging without having to drop packages at a branch.

Where a logistics operator (3PL) fits in

A 3PL (external logistics operator, third-party logistics) fits all three, but differently:

  • For Full, the job isn't shipping — ML does that — it's prep and replenishment: receiving your import, labeling each unit to Mercado Libre's specs, splitting inventory into shipments to the Full centers, and restocking before you run out. That's marketplace prep: if product arrives mislabeled, ML rejects it and you lose selling days.
  • For Flex and Colecta, the operator is your fulfillment: it stores your inventory, builds each order and leaves it ready for pickup or same-day delivery. That's the traditional fulfillment service, with shipping coordinated by zone.

The advantage of a single operator is that you run one inventory for everything: whatever you didn't send to Full, you dispatch via Flex or Colecta from the same warehouse — no duplicated stock.

Full, Flex or Colecta? How to decide

There's no single answer; it depends on your catalog and your margin:

  • Full makes sense when you have high-rotation products, standard size, and you want the FULL badge to compete on visibility. Watch slow-moving inventory: ML's storage penalizes it.
  • Flex/Colecta makes sense when you want to control your inventory, have a broad or seasonal catalog, or sell across several channels (your Shopify store, Amazon, etc.) and don't want stock trapped inside one marketplace's centers.
  • The most common play is hybrid: your best-sellers on Full for exposure, and the rest of the catalog via Flex/Colecta with a 3PL. Best of both, without over-investing in platform storage.

Frequently asked questions

What is Mercado Envíos Full?

It's the mode where Mercado Libre stores and ships your products from its own centers. You get the FULL badge and faster shipping, in exchange for sending (and replenishing) inventory prepped to their specs.

Do I need Full to have a good reputation?

No. Reputation is built on punctual shipping, and you reach that with Flex or Colecta too if your operation dispatches on time. Full helps exposure; it isn't required to sell well.

Can I sell on Mercado Libre and my own store with the same inventory?

Yes, if you work with an operator that centralizes stock. Whatever you don't send to Full, you dispatch via Flex/Colecta from the same warehouse, and from there you also supply your own store or other marketplaces. We cover it in What is a fulfillment center.

How much does fulfillment for Mercado Libre cost?

It depends on the mode and volume. Full charges storage and handling; Flex/Colecta with a 3PL is billed by receiving, storage and prepped order. We break down the model in How much does a 3PL cost in Mexico?.
